A message from the LASL Executive Board:
As librarians we know the power of words, their ability to change hearts and minds is something that we share with our students every day. Given their power, we must also use words correctly. Right now, there are protagonistic individuals and groups who are using inflammatory language to falsely describe the actions of educators and librarians.
Teachers and librarians partner with parents and families every day to provide our students with a high-quality, age-appropriate education, while following the policies set forth by their schools, districts, and states. Using antagonistic language to describe the work of these professionals can open them up to harassment and violence, strain the relationship they have with parents and community members, and hinder their ability to provide the best education possible for our children.
